At the end of December, the French couple Steeve Gaudet & Marioara Cheptene won the gold medals at the Professional World Championship ShowDance Standard in Riga, Latvia. It was a wonderful return to the competition parquet for them after two and a half years.
Dmitry Zharkov & Olga Kulikova made the golden hat trick at European Championship Standard in Copenhagen at the beginning of the season in January. The discipline of ten dances introduced new European Champions in March. It was won by Konstantin Gorodilov & Dominika Bergmannova for the second time after an annual break. Another European Championship was held in December in May: Armen Tsaturyan & Svetlana Gudyno from Russia have become a European champions for the second time in a row.
The World Championships ShowDance Standard and Latin took place in Bratislava in mid-September, both disciplines won by Russian couples: standard by Dmitry Pleshkov & Anastasia Kulbeda, latin by Fedor Poliansky & Dina Akhmetgareeva. The event in Ostrava at the beginning of October caught the attention of the dance world. Russians Armen Tsaturyan & Svetlana Gudyno have conquered the throne of the World Championship for the first time.
Two European Championships in ShowDance Standard and Latin was scheduled not even two month after the World Championships in this discipline. Both at the same competition in Ústí nad Labem, Czechia. The title of the ShowDance in standard was also taken by Dmitry Pleshkov & Anastasia Kulbeda, in latin by Anton Aldaev & Natalia Polukhina from Russia.
At the beginning of November, the Ten Dance World Championship took place in Warsaw. Konstantin Gorodilov & Dominika Bergmannova won their first title of world champions. And the most watched World Championship was held in Vienna a week later. Dmitry Zharkov & Olga Kulikova won the fourth title in a row. That was a historical success, because any other couple have never made the same results before.
The World Championship Ten Dance of the U21 category was won by the Russians Semen Khrzanovskiy & Elizaveta Lykhina in April. They made their success in front of audience at home in Moscow. The World Championship Latin in Tbilisi, Georgia, followed in May. Also here was winner the Russian couple, Dmitry Kulebakin & Daria Sviridenko. The World Championship Ten Dance in Junior II category was won by Yaroslav Kiselev & Sofia Philipchuk from Russia in Chisinau. They also won the title of the world championship in latin, which took place in Bilbao, Spain, in October, as well as the World Championship Standard in Sibiu, Romania! What a results!
Not only the European Championship Youth Latin was held in Sochi, but also the European Championships Standard Formations. The gold medal won the team of the Russian club Vera Tyumen. And the European Championship Latin was held in Poland in June. The Germans won – Grün Gold Club Bremen.
World Championships Standard was also won by Vera Tyumen at the end of November. And the GGC Bremen also won the World Championship Latin in China.
20 World Championships and 12 European Championships took place this year (excluding senior category and PD Master Class championships). It‘s almost unbelievable that 12 world champions titles and 6 European champions titles belong to Russian couples. The Moldavians (4 titles) and the Romanians (3 titles) were also very successfull. Two gold medals belong to Estonia and thanks to the formation category also to Germany. The Danes, the Lithuanians and the French won by one title for each among the professionals.
According to this year’s results it is most likely that whoever wins the European Championship wins the World Championship. And not just among the couples, but also among the formations. The only two exceptions appeared in standard among professionals and in the adults’ ShowDance Latin. The European Championship ShowDance Latin was held after the World Championships and the world champions of this category did not participate.
How will look like the next season?
